New Zealand 'Givealittle'

Kia Ora New Zealand! Wow, you're a very generous bunch. We set up the 'Givealittle' fundraiser to help our struggling budget and you, Kiwi friends, responded, and some! With all that is going on in the world at the moment, you chose to dig deep and walk with us here in Niger. A HUGE thank you!
On this page you can follow where your hard earned dollars will land. Our committee has already met, to decide where to best use these funds. We have made decisions for some of your donations (see below). The committee will meet again to disperse the remaining funds. In the meantime, here is an accounting of the decisions we have already made and some photos of some of the things we will use your donations for:
UPDATE: funds are in the Charity bank account and the work is starting (more to follow).

1) Replace the mouldy ceiling in our classroom at the office, add 2 extra ceiling fans, and purchase a stand up fan. The hot season is nearly here, so this is a priority.

UPDATE: Our transformed classroom. New fans, energy efficent lights, new ceiling, new desks and a fresh coat of paint -merci!

2) Replace rickety desks with desks measured to the room size, so we can add more students to the class. The old desks will be repaired as best as possible and donated to the local State school.

3) We are very short of rugby balls, cones etc. The British Embassy here in Niger has stood up and they kindly offered to ship any rugby material from the UK free of charge. So we will be buying lots of new rugby balls!

4) As mentioned on the website the tutors are the rock our little house stands on. 16 committed young adults who currently receive a monthly salary of 8000CFA (NZ$20) for many hours of work, most of it volunteer. They deserve an appreciation bonus, and we plan to use some of the 'Givealittle' funds for this purpose.

Some of the tutors receiving their bonus NZD 62) and showing off some of the new rugby balls. They didn't know what a Kiwi was, they do now, and are VERY grateful!
* more rugby material on the way
5) School supplies. We need everything and thanks to you, we can now build up a stock to keep us going.
